Get ready to meet the newest member of the Poptop team, David. He has recently joined us as Head Of Operations and we’re so excited to see what he will bring to the team. Take a look at our recent interview with him to get to know him a bit better.
What challenges do you expect to face?
Facilitating good communication on terms that make sense for all parties is a challenge in any marketplace. I was Head of Support at Notonthehighstreet for a number of years, spending 7 years there in total and then working for a couple of smaller marketplaces since, and that has always been the case.
That puts a lot of focus on education; customers don’t always understand what Poptop is and Suppliers don’t always know the best way to convert their leads into bookings. Where those two things align positively we see some very engaged Suppliers with lots of work coming in on the platform and I think we can help more of our Suppliers get there.
What is one of the main projects you’re focusing on?
Onboarding has been the obvious focus but there is a lot of great work going on here with Corporate bookings and getting them sourced and over the line for Suppliers. It’s a potential area for solid growth and I have been supporting that by getting Client Support into an efficient state.
After that, I’m going to be digging into the Supplier side of things and some of our Suppliers have already been great in having good conversations with me about their experiences on Poptop so far.
What is your favourite party food?
Whenever I host a gathering, I make a massive pot of bolognese which I then also make my famous BogLog with (it’s a huge bolognese sausage roll, basically). Fun fact about me, I once made such a massive bolognese that I cracked the induction hob, which cost me about £500 to replace and one very grouchy spouse.
What is your favourite party song?
Everyone goes ape for Mr. Brightside but to be honest as long as there’s a horn of some sort I will be up and jiving to just about anything.
What’s a job you’d love to try and one you wouldn’t want to try?
I think I’m the funniest man of all time, but only to the right people, which I think would make me simultaneously an amazing and awful Stand Up Comedian. I’d make myself laugh, that’s guaranteed, but I couldn’t really make any promises on any other human being alive and I don’t think I can handle bombing on stage, hence never trying it!
